Croatia: Electoral Commission confirms 19 candidacies

The Croatian State Electoral Commission (DIP) on Monday confirmed that they had received 19 candidacies for the presidential elections and will report on their validity within 48 hours, said DIP chairman Branko Hrvatin shortly after the deadline at midnight.

Any complaints may be filed within 48 hours of the announcement of the validity of the candidacies and the decision on validity may be appealed before the Constitutional Court, Hrvatin said.

Candidates were required to collect a minimum of 10,000 signatures supporting their candidacies.

According to unofficial sources, 13 candidates collected the necessary number of signatures -- Milan Bandic, Damir Kajin, Nadan Vidosevic, Andrija Hebrang, Ivo Josipovic, Vesna Pusic, Josip Jurcevic, Dragan Primorac, Miroslav Tudjman, Boris Miksic, Veljko Dzakula, Vesna Skare Ozbolt and Slavko Vuksic.

The presidential election is scheduled for December 27.
